I thought this would be fun to do. In the future, I will probably do a few drabbles, but why not have some fun with answering a random question from one of the questionnaires?
Has a game's storyline ever made you cry? [source for the question]
Quite a few, actually!
The first one I distinctly remember is the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game. The ending where the player character, who has been traveling with the partner pokemon, finally leaves at the end of the main story had me in fucking tears. And by leave, it's more like, the world is "rejecting their existence." It was the first time I realize a game could break my heart (in a good way).
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers did it much better, though.
The music just hurts.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is another one. I have been in love with the series since I was a teenager. For a long time, the only two games I was able to really play was Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the GBA and Kingdom Hearts Days on the DS. I loved CoM, but Days really got me in love with the series. Axel, Roxas, and Xion was the main group I knew before I finally got my hands on the 1.5 and 2.5 ports on PS4. These three were the peak of what Kingdom Hearts storytelling was for me. The slow build up of their friendship only to be destroyed in a tragedy beyond their control.
The knowing someone's missing, but not remembering just fucking destroys me as a concept. Then you make it to the second half of Kingdom Hearts 3 where Sora goes through the gauntlet of helping people fight the new Org XIII. Axel fights Saix and a new person. Roxas appears to help! Then Xion reveals herself and everything clicks into place for Axel. It's the girl he vowed to bring back, no matter how many times she left!! There she is!!! Then once the battle was done, Axel hugs his friends that he lost a year and change before! Fucking tears!!!

Of the most recent, though, is Xenoblade 2: Torna DLC. The DLC is a prologue where you play as Lora, who is very much dead at the start of Xenoblade 2. You know how it's supposed to end: Lora dies, Jin becomes a Flesheater, Mythra puts herself into a coma, at least one whole continent is lost. However, the road to getting there is done in such the right ways. Two of your companions die: one at the hands of the game's villain and the other by the bad choices Mythra makes. Lora herself is wonderfully fleshed out as a character beyond what glimspes you get from the main game's flashbacks. She's goofy, she's broke, she's incredibly resourceful! AND YOU KNOW SHE'S GOING TO DIE HORRIBLY!

God Xenoblade 2 is a wonder of a game.
