Journaling: What is making you smile these days? Create a top 10 list of anything you want to talk about.

What doesn't make me smile these days?

1. My cats! The big one and little one are both such assholes to each other, but I love their little quirks.

The big one is a shy cuddler. She's a lover and makes biscuits and purrs so often! She's not a big fan of new people, but she's gotten better over the years. We've had people come over a bit more consistently, and she's gotten quite use to them by now. She also loves laying on my chest, and nearly suffocating me with how close she wants to get her ass to my face. When she was closer to 16 pounds, she nearly did a few times. She's now a much better weight, so she's not going to accidentally kill me in my sleep.

The little one is super confident, but she isn't much of a people-cat. She likes checking out newcomers and is generally pretty friendly, but she doesn't default to asking for pets. She will steal food if left unattended. Since we've gotten her, she has stolen: a whole poptart, a large slice of pizza, cookies with chocolate in them (I called pet poison control, but she didn't even get the runs from it), and just earlier today, some of my alfredo noodles. Little bastard.

2. Letting people know about my friend's shiny living dex in Scar/Vi. She has almost every shiny that hasn't been shiny locked. Her luck is also hilarious. Within an hour of starting a new game, she's already managed to catch a shiny Lechonk. Another wild understanding of how crazy her luck is: in the 3Ds port of Crystal, she got shiny Celebi within the gen 2 odds (1 in 8000-something), and then just fifty restarts later, she gets a shiny Suicune.

3. My sewing machine. I haven't touched it in some months, but it's one of my favorite $250 I dropped. I've made so many pieces of clothing I'm just very happy with. Since getting it, I've learned what types of fabrics I like, and it's always some natural fibers. Linen or cotton-linen blends are some of my favorite.

4. Every time a new episode of Space Boy drops. Please read it, it's so good!

5. When my favorite rare pairs get a new fic. Current obsessions are Gale/Karlach and Wyll/Halsin, both from BG3. Also any rare pair featuring Sucrose has my number.

6. Finding new TTRPGs on itch.io. I've made a post about some of my favorites, but I found one I think is going to help me with my original WIP writer's block. It's called Wanderer. The rules are a bit hard to parse out, but I think it's because the game's maker has English as a second language, and writing in a second language is incredibly hard.

7. Finding similar tastes with my dad and brother, especially when it comes to something to watch. I don't watch a lot of TV or movies, and my tastes never quite align with either of them, but when it does, it's quite a hoot. In the last few years, my dad has gotten into anime, so it's been funny hearing him ask me about shows that are popping up in his queue that I already had either known of or read the manga. Recent shoutouts are Apothecary Diaries and Dan da Dan. I've also recently gotten him into Andor, which I'm very happy about. The entire prison arc was so fucking haunting.

8. My Ita bag. I haven't done much in regards to decorating it, but I've gotten so many compliments on some of the things I've shown off. One of these days, I do want to make a proper insert and go off on decorating the shit out of it.

9. The smell of coffee. I will joke about it being my life blood, but if I can never have a good cup of joe again, at least I can always have the smell.

10. Sharing things with my friends! Be it pictures of my cats, cool things I think is up their alley, or something cursed. It's so much fun to read someone for filth with the last two and equally so to be on the receiving end of it. My friend just shared a youtube short about the term tsundoku, and I screamed.

11. Secret 11th thing: Artbooks! Especially artbooks by indie artists! It can be themed, it can be about OCs, it can be about a series I know nothing about. I love artbooks of all sorts.

You’ve probably heard of spooky black cats, chaotic orange cats, and distinguished-looking tuxedo cats. If you’re really into cats, you might have even lesser-known color variants like seal point and ticked tabby. But there’s officially a new cat color in town— salmiak, or ‘salty liquorice.’ You can see one here.

The pretty black, white, and grey shade—named for a popular snack food in Finland, where this coat color has been making itself known—is thanks to a fur strand that starts off black near the root, but grows whiter and whiter out towards the tip. The coat was first spotted in 2007, and in 2019, it was brought to the attention of a group of cat experts lead by feline geneticist Heidi Anderson. Since then, the group has been trying to figure out exactly what causes this shade to express itself, and recently, they finally figured it out. A paper on the discovery has been published in the journal Animal Genetics.

God, that coat is pretty.

(Also, snrk at the "distinguished tuxedos" as my little one is a gray tux and is a goddamn hellion)

Didn't get any writing done since work did it's work thing. My's sleeps been a bit screwed up the last week, unfortunately, but I did at least get to bed at a half-decent time. Unfortunately, the little cat decided it was a great idea to be angry I wasn't up at 5am to feed her when her feeding time is at 6:30. And she's not one to be ignored: the little one will knock shit over, scream her head off, and paw at posters and prints to the point of tearing them.

She's a bit kinder to my roommate, but that's because roommate sleeps like the dead. Noise doesn't bother them, but the pawing at the face will.

Anyway, that's how the little brat got put in the kennel for an hour because I'm not letting 5am feeding times become routine until fucking daylights savings.

She also proceeded to knock my coffee maker off the counter while I was gone and darted past me when I was returning home. I'm very glad the main entrance is enclosed.

I can't believe I found the perfect icon for my sewing entries. I always have at least one cat screaming at me or laying on my fabric as I'm working. (In fact, the two assholes in question are on either side of this laptop as I write this lmao)

I finally did some research for a bit more tips on how to work with satin, and I've put a bit of money into some dress pins. I gotta say, they are a bit nicer to work with so long as I don't lose them. One of my dumbass cats likes to stick things into her mouth despite being two years old, and she loves going after my regular pins. These dress pins are so, so much smaller, so I need to be extra careful. At least the box they came isn't flimsy.

My hope is to finish the rest of this damn thing (collar, sleeves, and placket). I think the buttons will be the most interesting in all the worst ways. Wish me luck!

Once this is done, I'll need to start on shiny Celebi! I'm very excited to work on them since the inspo is a taking heavily from the Taisho-era fashion circa 1910s (the fashion is great but everything else form that era sucks ass).
