Holonovel sounds like an apt term for a lot of story-heavy video games, especially in the JRPG and CRPG genres. There are also visual novels and sound novels that get insanely more specific, with little to no gameplay. It's an incredibly interesting set of genres by comparison to triple A games.
And if you want to learn more about video games that have the mechanics being heavily and even coding being incredibly important to the story, I would suggest checking out videos about DokiDoki Literature Club or Undertale. Both are vastly different genres, but they're also stories that really can't be told in another medium.
I really do want to get more into roleplaying games, but alas, being an adult has eaten up so much of my time.
