10/27 - MTG Fun

glitteringstarsI managed to convince myself to go to my local Magic league's CDH night after so many months, and I forgot how much fun it is to just yak as you get your ass kicked. I only got to play a game before it got too late for me to stay, but I had a lot of fun.
TIL: the Y'shtola, Night's Blessed precon deck is absolutely terrifying, even if a newbie is playing it. Though it's like giving a drunk toddler a knife. I may want to switch out a couple of cards once I get a feel for the deck, but it's generally kinda fun to play so long as I remember all the effects. It's also my first 3 color mana deck, so that's another thing to wrap my head around.
Like shit, maybe I should build a "summon big stick" mono green deck so I can play something a bit simpler after that non-sense. Or maybe a mono red because I got a fun Secret Lair pack a while back I'd love an excuse to use.
Anyway, yeah, this is probably the one game I genuinely think is a lot more fun to lose than to win because most of the ways I've lost have been hilarious. Today's way I was knocked out by overkill. I don't remember the specific card it was, but it had trample and gained power based on how many lands were in the player's control. Of course, the number was crazy high because landfall and another ramp.
